Spokane City Council Hosts A Community Food Drive

Spokane, WALocal News

The Spokane City Council has initiated a community food drive from October 15 to December 15 to support the Zilch and Bite2Go programs. Zilch collects food for local pantries, while Bite2Go supplies weekend meals to K-12 students facing food insecurity. Council Member Paul Dillon highlighted the importance of this effort for fostering community health and student retention. Bite2Go reports that one in five children in the area struggles with hunger, which hinders their learning capabilities. Residents can drop off non-perishable food items or monetary donations at designated drop boxes in City Hall.

Council Member Michael Cathcart invited the public to participate, noting that utility bill payments can also be an opportunity to contribute. Financial donations can be made securely via a QR code linked to Bite2Go at 2nd Harvest. For further details on the programs, the community is encouraged to visit the 2nd Harvest website.
