Spokane City Council Hosts A Community Food Drive
Spokane City Council and City Employees will conduct a food drive and fundraiser from October 15 to December 15, supporting the Zilch and Bite2Go programs. Zilch collects food for immediate distribution, while Bite2Go provides nutritious weekend meals for local students in grades K-12. Council Member Paul Dillon emphasized the initiative's importance in addressing food insecurity, stating it promotes dignity and stability within the community. In Spokane, 1 in 5 children experience hunger, impacting their ability to focus in school. Donations of non-perishable food and monetary contributions can be made at City Hall, with designated drop-off points on multiple floors.
Council Member Michael Cathcart urged community involvement during City Council meetings or while visiting City Hall for utility payments. This initiative reflects a commitment to community health and student retention. For more information, residents can visit the 2nd Harvest website.
