Spokane Police Department and Gonzaga University co-host weeklong Dialogue Policing training
Gonzaga University and the Spokane Police Department partnered to conduct a weeklong Dialogue Policing training aimed at improving law enforcement communication skills. The program, created by the Columbus Police Department, consists of a comprehensive 40-hour curriculum designed to equip officers for effective interactions during large gatherings. Attendees explored de-escalation techniques and crowd psychology while participating in discussions with local activists and media representatives. The training included practical scenarios to ensure officers effectively grasped the material, leading to certification at the week's end. This initiative underscores the significance of fostering understanding and collaboration between law enforcement and community members.
By introducing officers to community perspectives, the program aims to build trust and improve policing strategies. Multiple agencies from the Spokane area participated, reflecting a regional commitment to enhanced policing practices. The training represents a proactive step towards addressing community concerns in law enforcement interactions.
