Spokane City Council Hosts A Community Food Drive

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane City Council will host a community food drive and fundraiser from October 15 to December 15 to support Zilch and Bite2Go, initiatives aimed at alleviating food insecurity. Zilch collects food for immediate distribution through local pantries, while Bite2Go provides nutritious weekend meals to public school students. “This effort will help support student retention, long-term community health, and help everyone thrive,” said Council Member Paul Dillon. The drive aims to address the alarming statistic that 1 in 5 children in the region face hunger daily, impacting their ability to learn. Residents can drop off non-perishable food items at City Hall in designated drop boxes or make monetary donations via a secure QR code linked to Bite2Go.

Council Member Michael Cathcart encourages community participation, stating that even utility bill payments can be combined with donations. This initiative not only combats hunger but also fosters a sense of community engagement and support. For further details, residents can visit the 2nd Harvest website for information on the programs.
