Spokane Police Department and Gonzaga University co-host weeklong Dialogue Policing training
Gonzaga University and the Spokane Police Department co-hosted a weeklong training event for Dialogue Policing, aimed at improving law enforcement's communication skills. The comprehensive program, developed by the Columbus Police Department, consisted of a 40-hour curriculum focused on de-escalation techniques and crowd psychology. Officers participated in discussions with community activists and media representatives to foster understanding and collaboration. Training scenarios allowed officers to practice their communication skills in realistic settings, ensuring they are well-prepared for large-scale gatherings. Multiple agencies from the Spokane area attended, emphasizing the importance of regional cooperation in law enforcement.
The training program aligns with ongoing efforts to improve community relations and public safety. Certification was awarded at the end of the week, marking the officers' successful completion of the course. This initiative reflects a growing recognition of the need for effective communication between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
