Spokane City Council Hosts A Community Food Drive

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane City Council will host a community food drive from October 15 to December 15 to support the Zilch and Bite2Go programs, which address local food insecurity. Zilch collects food for distribution through small pantries, while Bite2Go provides nutritious meals to students in grades K-12. Council Member Paul Dillon stated that this initiative is vital for community health and student retention, noting that 1 in 5 children in Spokane face hunger. Donations can be made at City Hall, where non-perishable food and monetary gifts are accepted. Council Member Michael Cathcart also encouraged residents to bring food items when visiting for council meetings or utility payments.

The food drive aims to ensure that no child in the community goes hungry. According to Bite2Go, hunger adversely affects children's ability to focus and learn in school. For more information on how to contribute, residents can visit the 2nd Harvest website.
