Gonzaga University and the Spokane Police Department co-hosted a weeklong Dialogue Policing training event that concluded on October 15, 2025. This comprehensive 40-hour program, developed by the Columbus Police Department, aims to improve communication skills for law enforcement during large gatherings. Attending officers were introduced to the Dialogue Policing model and engaged in a Q&A session with local activists and media representatives to gain diverse perspectives. The training placed significant emphasis on de-escalation techniques and science-informed crowd psychology, vital for managing large crowds effectively. Officers participated in practical scenarios to reinforce their understanding of the material before completing certification requirements.
