SPD launches alternative reporting option for sexual assault survivors
The Spokane Police Department (SPD) has launched Seek Then Speak, a resource aimed at assisting sexual assault survivors in Washington. This program enables survivors and their support networks to collect vital information regarding medical care and available services. The self-guided interview is tailored for individuals aged 18 and older, equipping them with knowledge about their rights and the reporting process. Once the interview concludes, it generates a PDF, allowing survivors to either save it for future reference or submit it to law enforcement. This initiative provides a crucial alternative reporting option for those who might not be ready to engage with police directly.
Seek Then Speak is part of a broader national framework developed by EVAWI, underscoring the need for supportive resources for survivors. The program reflects SPD's ongoing commitment to enhance local support systems for victims of sexual violence. As more survivors access these resources, the initiative may lead to increased reporting and a better understanding of their rights.
