SPD launches alternative reporting option for sexual assault survivors

Spokane, WALocal News

The Spokane Police Department (SPD) launched Seek Then Speak, an alternative reporting option aimed at supporting sexual assault survivors in Washington. This resource allows survivors and their support networks to gather essential information about medical care, supportive services, and other resources. Survivors aged 18 and older can engage in a self-guided interview at their own pace, which generates a PDF report containing critical information about their case. This initiative seeks to empower survivors by educating them on their rights and the reporting process. SPD emphasizes that Seek Then Speak is for circumstances that do not require immediate law enforcement intervention.

For emergencies, individuals are urged to call 911 or seek immediate assistance from mental health counselors at 988. The program aims to provide a safe pathway for survivors to access resources while making informed decisions about reporting. The launch of Seek Then Speak represents a significant step in enhancing the support system for survivors in Spokane.
