SPD launches alternative reporting option for sexual assault survivors

Spokane, WALocal News

The Spokane Police Department (SPD) has launched the Seek Then Speak program to assist sexual assault survivors in Washington. Developed by EVAWI (Ending Violence Against Women International), this initiative allows survivors to privately gather information and explore support options. The program features a self-guided interview for survivors aged 18 and older, which generates a PDF containing vital information about their rights and the reporting process. Survivors can save this document for their records or submit it to law enforcement if they choose. SPD's implementation of Seek Then Speak provides survivors with a new avenue for reporting while ensuring they have access to essential resources and support.

The initiative reflects a broader commitment to improving survivor services and resources in Spokane. Seek Then Speak is particularly relevant in cases where immediate law enforcement response is unnecessary, emphasizing the importance of empowering survivors. This program aligns with ongoing efforts to address and combat sexual violence in the community.
