SPD launches alternative reporting option for sexual assault survivors
The Spokane Police Department (SPD) has launched Seek Then Speak, a new initiative aimed at supporting sexual assault survivors in Washington. This resource is designed to help survivors and their support networks gather vital information about medical care, supportive services, and other resources. It features a self-guided interview process for individuals aged 18 and older, allowing them to provide critical information at their own pace. Upon completion, the self-guided interview generates a PDF that can be saved or submitted to law enforcement, empowering survivors in their reporting choices. Seek Then Speak emphasizes the importance of privacy and personal agency for survivors.
SPD's adoption of this initiative signifies a commitment to enhancing local resources for individuals affected by sexual violence. The program aligns with national efforts led by EVAWI (Ending Violence Against Women International) to improve support for survivors. This new pathway for reporting marks a pivotal move in fostering a more supportive environment for survivors in Spokane.
