SPD launches alternative reporting option for sexual assault survivors

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane Police Department (SPD) announced the launch of Seek Then Speak, an alternative reporting option for sexual assault survivors. Developed by Ending Violence Against Women International (EVAWI), this resource allows survivors to privately gather information regarding medical care and support services. Survivors aged 18 and older can engage in a self-guided interview that educates them on their rights and the purpose of the information collected. Upon completion, the interview produces a PDF, which survivors can save or submit to law enforcement at their discretion. The initiative is particularly significant for Spokane, as it enhances local resources for survivors who may not be ready to report immediately.

Additionally, Seek Then Speak provides access to a broader network of resources for individuals outside Spokane. This program underscores SPD's commitment to empowering survivors and addressing the needs of the community. The launch reflects a growing recognition of the importance of tailored support for sexual assault survivors.
