SPD launches alternative reporting option for sexual assault survivors

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane Police Department (SPD) recently launched Seek Then Speak, an alternative reporting option designed for sexual assault survivors. This platform enables survivors and their support networks to gather essential information regarding medical care and supportive services privately. Individuals aged 18 and older can engage in a self-guided interview, which educates them on their rights and the significance of the information collected. Upon completion, a PDF is produced, allowing survivors to retain it or submit it to law enforcement at their discretion. Seek Then Speak aims to enhance support for survivors in Spokane, contributing to broader efforts to address sexual violence in Washington.

The initiative aligns with national resources developed by EVAWI (Ending Violence Against Women International). As part of its implementation, SPD emphasizes the importance of providing survivors with accessible information and resources. This program represents a proactive step towards improving the reporting process for sexual assault cases.
