SPD launches alternative reporting option for sexual assault survivors
Spokane Police Department (SPD) has launched the Seek Then Speak reporting option to support sexual assault survivors in gathering essential information and starting the reporting process. This national initiative, created by EVAWI, allows survivors aged 18 and older to complete a self-guided interview that educates them on their rights and the importance of the information being collected. Once finished, individuals can either save the generated PDF for personal use or submit it to law enforcement. The program is designed to empower victims by providing resources without immediate law enforcement involvement, fostering a supportive atmosphere in Spokane. Local survivors can benefit from access to medical care, supportive services, and other essential resources.
Seek Then Speak is particularly crucial as it provides an alternative for those who may not be ready to report cases immediately. The SPD aims to increase awareness and utilization of this resource to better assist victims in the community. As part of a broader effort to address sexual violence, this initiative reflects an ongoing commitment to supporting survivors in Spokane.
