SPD launches alternative reporting option for sexual assault survivors

Spokane, WALocal News

The Spokane Police Department (SPD) has unveiled Seek Then Speak, an innovative reporting option for sexual assault survivors. Created by Ending Violence Against Women International (EVAWI), this resource enables survivors and their support networks to privately gather essential information regarding medical care and support services. The platform includes a self-guided interview for survivors aged 18 and older, educating them on their rights and the significance of specific information requested. Upon completion, the interview generates a PDF that survivors can save or submit to law enforcement if they choose to report. This launch in Washington aims to enhance local resources available to survivors in Spokane, providing a supportive pathway to reporting.

SPD highlights that Seek Then Speak is intended for non-emergency situations, directing individuals in immediate danger to call 911. The initiative reflects a growing trend to empower survivors with options that respect their pace and privacy. By offering this alternative, SPD hopes to foster a more supportive environment for survivors seeking assistance.
