Proposed Resolution Outlines City of Spokane's Federal Priorities

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown and the City Council introduced a resolution this week outlining federal priorities for 2025-2026, focusing on critical funding for civil rights, public safety, economic growth, and infrastructure. The resolution calls for support of essential programs such as Medicaid and the expansion of mental health response teams that operate alongside police and fire personnel. City leaders also advocate for the reinstatement of $48 million in funding for the American Aerospace Materials Manufacturing Center, which would create local jobs. The resolution highlights the need for funding to support childcare initiatives for nontraditional workers and on-base housing for military families. Infrastructure priorities include the Latah Bridge Rehabilitation Project and PFAS mitigation efforts.

Mayor Brown emphasized the necessity of federal investment for local services, stating that local governments cannot succeed without it. Councilmember Paul Dillon noted this agenda reflects a commitment to working people amid uncertainties. The resolution aims to restore funding previously stripped away, underscoring its importance to Spokane residents.
