SPD launches alternative reporting option for sexual assault survivors

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane Police Department (SPD) launched Seek Then Speak, an alternative reporting option designed for sexual assault survivors. Developed by EVAWI, this national resource allows survivors and their supporters to collect vital information about available medical care and support services. The platform offers a self-guided interview for individuals aged 18 and older, educating them on their rights and the purpose of the information being collected. Once the interview is completed, a PDF document is generated, which survivors can choose to save or submit to law enforcement. This initiative provides a significant resource for survivors in Spokane, where the SPD aims to improve support for those affected by sexual violence.

Seek Then Speak is specifically designed for situations that do not require immediate law enforcement intervention, emphasizing the importance of accessibility and privacy for survivors. The program aligns with national efforts to enhance reporting options and support services for sexual assault victims. SPD encourages survivors to use this resource as a step toward healing and justice.
