Proposed Resolution Outlines City of Spokane's Federal Priorities
Spokane’s Mayor Lisa Brown and City Council have introduced a resolution detailing federal priorities for 2025-2026 aimed at addressing key community needs. The priorities focus on securing funding for civil rights protections, enhancing public safety through expanded mental health services, and fostering economic growth. Among the proposals is a request to reinstate $48 million for the American Aerospace Materials Manufacturing Center, which was rescinded by the Trump Administration. The resolution also calls for restoring $19. 9 million in Community Change Grant funding to improve housing and public health infrastructure.
Other priorities include advocating for essential safety net programs like Medicaid and housing assistance. Mayor Brown stated that federal investment is vital for local governments to maintain essential services. Councilmember Paul Dillon remarked that the legislative agenda underscores a commitment to supporting working families. The City’s comprehensive approach reflects a proactive stance in addressing the pressing challenges faced by Spokane residents.
