SPD launches alternative reporting option for sexual assault survivors

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane Police Department unveiled Seek Then Speak, a new resource for sexual assault survivors that allows them to collect information and initiate the reporting process confidentially. This initiative aims to provide crucial support to survivors in Washington, with tailored resources for medical care and legal rights. Survivors aged 18 and older can complete a self-guided interview, which educates them about the information being requested and their rights throughout the process. Upon completion, they receive a PDF to save or submit to law enforcement if they choose to report. This resource is designed for situations that do not require immediate police intervention.

The program aligns with broader efforts to enhance survivor support and reporting options. For urgent situations, individuals should contact emergency services or mental health hotlines. Seek Then Speak is part of a national initiative developed by EVAWI (Ending Violence Against Women International).
