SPD launches alternative reporting option for sexual assault survivors
The Spokane Police Department (SPD) has launched Seek Then Speak, an alternative reporting option aimed at assisting sexual assault survivors in navigating the reporting process. This resource, developed by Ending Violence Against Women International (EVAWI), allows survivors aged 18 and older to complete a self-guided interview at their own pace, generating a PDF that can be saved or submitted to law enforcement. The platform offers essential information on medical care and supportive services, empowering survivors to make informed decisions about reporting. The initiative aims to create a supportive environment for survivors in Washington, particularly in Spokane, by providing them with resources and options tailored to local needs. SPD emphasizes that Seek Then Speak is for situations that do not require immediate law enforcement response.
In emergencies, individuals are encouraged to call 911. The launch of this program reflects a growing recognition of the need for accessible reporting options for survivors of sexual assault. This resource aligns with broader efforts to enhance support systems for victims of violence.
