SPD launches alternative reporting option for sexual assault survivors

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane Police Department (SPD) has launched Seek Then Speak, an alternative reporting option for sexual assault survivors. This resource enables survivors and their support networks to gather essential information regarding medical care and supportive services. The self-guided interview process allows survivors aged 18 and older to collect critical details at their own pace while providing education about their rights and how their information will be utilized. Upon completion, survivors receive a PDF which they can keep or submit to law enforcement if they choose to report. This initiative specifically caters to circumstances that do not necessitate immediate police involvement.

SPD aims to enhance support for survivors, ensuring they have access to vital resources. The program is part of a broader effort to improve reporting options for sexual assault victims in Washington State. Seek Then Speak aligns with national efforts to empower survivors and facilitate a more supportive reporting environment.
