Proposed Resolution Outlines City of Spokane's Federal Priorities

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane's Mayor Lisa Brown and the City Council introduced a resolution outlining the city's federal priorities for 2025-2026 during a Finance Committee meeting this week. The resolution highlights the need for continued funding in four key areas: civil rights, public safety, economic growth, and infrastructure. A significant request includes expanding mental health response teams that work alongside local police and fire personnel to provide 24/7 support. The council also aims to reinstate $48 million previously promised for the American Aerospace Materials Manufacturing Center, which is expected to create local jobs. In addition, the resolution addresses infrastructure concerns, such as PFAS mitigation and the need for investments in community resilience projects, including HVAC systems for low-income homes.

Mayor Brown emphasized the importance of federal support in ensuring the city can deliver essential services effectively. Councilmember Paul Dillon noted that the legislative agenda reflects a commitment to working people amid current uncertainties. The proposed measures aim to safeguard the most vulnerable residents while enhancing public safety and economic stability.
