Proposed Resolution Outlines City of Spokane's Federal Priorities
Spokane's Mayor Lisa Brown and the City Council have proposed a resolution outlining federal priorities for 2025-2026, focusing on civil rights, public safety, economic growth, and infrastructure investment. Among the key priorities are sustained funding for essential programs like Medicaid and housing vouchers, as well as initiatives to expand mental health response teams. The resolution calls for the reinstatement of $48 million in funding for the American Aerospace Materials Manufacturing Center, which is expected to create local jobs. Additionally, it supports the creation of a childcare center for nontraditional workers and housing initiatives for military families. Infrastructure requests include funding for the Latah Bridge Rehabilitation Project and PFAS mitigation efforts.
Mayor Brown stated that federal investment is vital for local governments to deliver essential services. Councilmember Dillon remarked on the agenda’s reflection of working people's realities during uncertain times. The resolution aims to address pressing community needs and secure necessary federal resources.
