SPD launches alternative reporting option for sexual assault survivors
The Spokane Police Department has unveiled Seek Then Speak, an alternative reporting option designed for sexual assault survivors. This initiative allows survivors and their supporters to gather essential information regarding medical care and supportive services. The platform includes a self-guided interview for individuals aged 18 and older, enabling them to document their experiences at their own pace. After completing the interview, a PDF is generated, which survivors can either save for their records or submit to law enforcement when ready. This program aims to provide survivors in Spokane with necessary resources while fostering a supportive community.
Seek Then Speak aligns with national efforts spearheaded by EVAWI (Ending Violence Against Women International) to assist survivors across the United States. The service is specifically tailored for situations that do not require immediate law enforcement intervention, allowing individuals to seek help without pressure. By launching this initiative, the Spokane Police Department hopes to enhance support and resources for survivors navigating the reporting process.
