Proposed Resolution Outlines City of Spokane's Federal Priorities

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane's Mayor Lisa Brown and the City Council introduced a resolution outlining their federal priorities for 2025-2026 this week. The resolution identifies four key areas: protecting civil rights, enhancing public safety, promoting economic growth, and investing in critical infrastructure. Notably, the city aims to expand the SMART alternative response teams, which pair mental health clinicians with first responders, to provide round-the-clock coverage. The resolution also calls for the reinstatement of $48 million in funding for the American Aerospace Materials Manufacturing Center, which was rescinded in 2020, to create jobs and bolster the local economy. Additionally, Mayor Brown advocates for restoring the Community Change Grant, which would fund high-efficiency HVAC systems for low-income homes and community resilience hubs.

"Federal investment is critical to our success," Brown stated, emphasizing the need for support. The resolution reflects the city's commitment to local residents' well-being and safety. Councilmember Paul Dillon noted that this agenda is vital for working people in a time of uncertainty.
