SPD launches alternative reporting option for sexual assault survivors

Spokane, WALocal News

The Spokane Police Department (SPD) has launched Seek Then Speak, an alternative reporting option aimed at supporting sexual assault survivors. This initiative allows survivors and their advocates to gather essential information about medical care and available resources. Survivors aged 18 and older can participate in a self-guided interview that not only collects critical information but also educates them on their rights and the reporting process. After completing the interview, participants receive a PDF that can either be saved for personal records or submitted to law enforcement if they choose to report. Seek Then Speak aims to provide a more accessible pathway for survivors in Spokane, enhancing the support available to them.

The program aligns with national efforts to improve resources for sexual assault survivors across the United States. According to SPD, this initiative reflects their commitment to fostering a supportive environment for survivors. The launch of this service signifies a progressive step in addressing sexual violence in the community.
