SPD launches alternative reporting option for sexual assault survivors

Spokane, WALocal News

The Spokane Police Department has launched the Seek Then Speak program, offering sexual assault survivors a confidential way to report incidents. This initiative allows survivors to gather information about medical care and supportive services while completing a self-guided interview at their own pace. The self-guided interview educates survivors on their rights and the purpose of the information collected. After completing the interview, survivors can save the generated PDF for their records or submit it to law enforcement if they decide to report. Seek Then Speak is tailored for situations that do not require immediate law enforcement intervention, ensuring that survivors have options.

The program aims to empower survivors by providing essential resources and support throughout the reporting process. Local authorities highlight that this initiative reflects a broader commitment to enhancing support for survivors within the Spokane community. The introduction of Seek Then Speak aligns with national efforts to improve reporting mechanisms for sexual assault cases.
