Spokane City Council to Consider Day Change of Legislative Sessions

The Spokane City Council is exploring a shift from its traditional Monday legislative sessions, responding to frequent cancellations due to federal holidays and requests for more community engagement. The council first discussed this change last year, deciding to defer action until 2025 to allow for public feedback through a community survey. The survey, open to Spokane residents, seeks to capture community preferences regarding the new meeting day, as the current draft of Ordinance C36738 does not specify one. This survey will close at midnight on September 21, and results will be shared during the Finance and Administration Committee meeting on September 22, 2025. A first reading of the resolution is scheduled for October 6, followed by a final reading and discussion on October 20.

If the council approves the change, it will take effect in August 2026. This initiative reflects the council's commitment to enhancing public engagement and responsiveness to constituents' needs. The proposed changes aim to create a more accessible legislative process for Spokane residents.
