Beetles Tree Infestation Information for City Parks

The City of Spokane will start removing trees in parks and rights of way affected by a destructive beetle infestation. This pest, which usually targets smaller trees, has begun to damage larger trees significantly. Some infested trees still appear green, while many exhibit rapid color fading. The city warns that these infected trees cannot survive and must be proactively removed to prevent the spread of the infestation. Proper disposal of the trunks will follow the removal process.

Residents can expect more educational resources about this pest and other native beetles impacting the area, with a workshop scheduled for spring 2026.
