Spokane City Council to Consider Day Change of Legislative Sessions

Spokane, WALocal News

The Spokane City Council is exploring a change in its legislative session day from Mondays due to multiple cancellations related to federal holidays and requests for greater community engagement. The council first addressed this issue last year, deferring further discussion until 2025 to incorporate public input. A public survey has been launched to gauge resident sentiment, closing at midnight on September 21, 2025, with results to be presented at the Finance and Administration Committee meeting the following day. A first reading of the resolution is scheduled for October 6, 2025, and a final reading and discussion will occur on October 20. If approved, the new meeting day will take effect in August 2026, as outlined in Ordinance C36738, which currently does not specify the new day.

The council aims to ensure the change reflects community preferences and needs. This initiative underscores the council's commitment to enhancing public engagement and responsiveness. Stakeholders are encouraged to participate in the survey to influence the decision-making process.
