Spokane City Council to Consider Day Change of Legislative Sessions

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane City Council is reconsidering its Monday legislative sessions due to frequent cancellations related to federal holidays and requests from constituents for more engagement opportunities. Last year, the council first discussed this potential change and decided to defer the matter to 2025, prioritizing community input through a public survey. The survey, which is open to Spokane residents, will close at midnight on September 21, 2025, and the feedback will guide the decision-making process. Results from the survey will be presented during the Finance and Administration Committee meeting on September 22, 2025. A first reading of the associated resolution is planned for October 6, followed by a final reading on October 20 during the legislative session.

If approved, the change in meeting days will take effect in August 2026. This initiative reflects the council's commitment to responsiveness and community engagement. The potential change is documented in Ordinance C36738, which currently leaves the new meeting day unspecified pending public input.
