Spokane City Council to Consider Day Change of Legislative Sessions

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane City Council is evaluating a change to its legislative session day, prompted by repeated cancellations due to federal holidays and requests from constituents for more engagement time. To facilitate this, a public survey is open for residents of Spokane, allowing them to express their preferences before a decision is made in 2025. The survey will close at midnight on September 21, 2025, and results will be shared during the Finance and Administration Committee meeting on September 22. Ordinance C36738, which addresses this potential change, currently leaves the new meeting day blank, awaiting community feedback. A first reading of the resolution is planned for October 6, 2025, with a final reading scheduled for October 20.

If the council approves the change, it will be implemented in August 2026. The council aims to incorporate community input to ensure the decision reflects the needs of Spokane residents. Engaging the public in this process highlights the council's commitment to responsive governance.
