Spokane City Council to Consider Day Change of Legislative Sessions

Spokane, WALocal News

The Spokane City Council is considering moving its legislative sessions from Monday to another day, driven by frequent cancellations due to federal holidays and community requests for enhanced engagement. The discussion about this potential change began last year, with the council deferring further consideration to 2025 to accommodate public input. Residents can participate in a survey open until September 21, 2025, designed to capture their preferences and needs regarding the meeting schedule. The survey results will be presented at the Finance and Administration Committee meeting on September 22. A first reading of the proposed resolution will occur on October 6, 2025, followed by a final reading and discussion on October 20.

If approved, the new meeting day will take effect in August 2026. This shift aligns with the council's intent to better serve constituents and facilitate public participation. The proposed change is outlined in Ordinance C36738, which currently does not specify a new meeting day.
