Spokane City Council to Consider Day Change of Legislative Sessions

Spokane, WALocal News

The Spokane City Council is considering moving its legislative sessions from Mondays due to frequent cancellations tied to federal holidays and requests for increased public engagement. A survey is open to Spokane residents until September 21, 2025, allowing them to voice their preferences on the new meeting day. Results from the survey will be shared during the Finance and Administration Committee meeting on September 22. The council plans a first reading of the resolution on October 6, 2025, followed by a final reading and discussion on October 20. If the resolution is approved, the change will take effect in August 2026.

This initiative began with discussions in 2024 and aims to create a more accessible legislative process. The council's approach underscores its commitment to community engagement and responsiveness. Ordinance C36738, which addresses this change, currently leaves the new meeting day unspecified pending public input.
