Spokane City Council to Consider Day Change of Legislative Sessions

Spokane, WALocal News

The Spokane City Council is considering moving its legislative meeting day from Monday to accommodate community needs and reduce cancellations due to federal holidays. This topic was first discussed last year but was postponed for further public input until 2025. To facilitate this, a community survey is underway, allowing Spokane residents to voice their preferences until September 21, 2025. The survey results will be shared during the Finance and Administration Committee meeting, taking place on September 22, 2025. The council plans a first reading of the proposed change on October 6, 2025, with a final decision scheduled for October 20.

The ordinance detailing the meeting day change, identified as Ordinance C36738, remains open-ended regarding the new day until public feedback is received. If the council approves the change, it will take effect in August 2026, reflecting the city's commitment to responsive governance. This initiative underscores the council's aim to enhance community engagement and legislative efficiency.
