Construction Project Will Impact W. Maxwell Starting Monday

Spokane, WALocal News

W. Maxwell Ave. will close for traffic signal upgrades from August 25 through September 19, affecting traffic between N. Walnut St. and N.

Elm St. This construction is part of the Maxwell Pettet to Walnut Bike/Pedestrian project, which aims to improve infrastructure by adding new sidewalks, bike lanes, and crosswalk enhancements. Northbound Maple St. and southbound Ash St. will remain open at intersections, though lane reductions may cause delays.

Eastbound motorists on Pettet Dr. will be detoured at Belt St. to Indiana St. , while westbound traffic will be redirected at Monroe St. Local access will be available during non-working hours.

The project is funded by the Washington State Pedestrian/Bike Program, the Arterial Street Fund, and the Washington Climate Commitment Act. The upgrades will better connect the West Central Neighborhood with AM Cannon Park and the Centennial Trail, enhancing community mobility. Motorists and pedestrians are advised to remain cautious and support local businesses affected by the construction.
