Construction Project Will Impact W. Maxwell Starting Monday

W. Maxwell Ave. will close from August 25 to September 19 for traffic signal upgrades as part of the Maxwell Pettet to Walnut Bike/Pedestrian project. The project aims to enhance bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure, including new sidewalks and bike lanes to better connect the West Central Neighborhood with local parks and community centers. Northbound Maple St.

and southbound Ash St. will remain open at intersections with Maxwell Ave. , but motorists can expect detours and lane reductions. Eastbound motorists on Pettet Dr. will be diverted at Belt St.

to Indiana St. , and westbound motorists will be redirected at Monroe St. Local access will be maintained during non-working hours to support businesses impacted by the construction. The project is funded by the Washington State Pedestrian/Bike Program, the Arterial Street Fund, and the Washington Climate Commitment Act. The upgrades aim to improve safety for all road users and promote active transportation in the area.
