Construction Project Will Impact W. Maxwell Starting Monday

W. Maxwell Ave. will close from August 25 to September 19 for traffic signal upgrades as part of the Maxwell Pettet to Walnut Bike/Pedestrian project. This initiative will enhance bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure, including new sidewalks, bike lanes, and crosswalk improvements, to better connect the West Central Neighborhood with local parks and the Centennial Trail. Motorists will encounter detours, particularly for eastbound drivers on Pettet Dr.

, who will be redirected at Belt St. Northbound Maple St. and southbound Ash St. will remain accessible at the intersections. The project is funded by the Washington State Pedestrian/Bike Program, Arterial Street Fund, and the Washington Climate Commitment Act.

Local access will be available during non-working hours, but pedestrians may face sidewalk detours. The city urges drivers to exercise caution and support local businesses during this necessary construction.
