Construction Project Will Impact W. Maxwell Starting Monday

Spokane, WALocal News

W. Maxwell Ave. will close from August 25 to September 19 for traffic signal upgrades as part of the Maxwell Pettet to Walnut Bike/Pedestrian project. This initiative aims to enhance bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure, featuring new sidewalks, bike lanes, and crosswalk improvements. The project connects the West Central Neighborhood with AM Cannon Park and the West Central Community Center, promoting safer travel for residents.

Motorists will encounter detours: eastbound traffic on Pettet Dr. will be rerouted at Belt St. , while westbound traffic on Maxwell Ave. will be redirected at Monroe St. Local access will be maintained during non-working hours, ensuring residents can reach their homes.

Pedestrians may experience sidewalk detours, necessitating caution. City officials emphasize the importance of driving slowly and supporting local businesses affected by this necessary work. The project receives funding from the Washington State Pedestrian/Bike Program and the Washington Climate Commitment Act.
