Construction Project Will Impact W. Maxwell Starting Monday

Spokane, WALocal News

W. Maxwell Ave. will close from Aug. 25 to Sept. 19 for traffic signal upgrades as part of the Maxwell Pettet to Walnut Bike/Pedestrian project.

This construction aims to enhance bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure, including new sidewalks and bike lanes, to provide better access to AM Cannon Park and the Centennial Trail. Northbound Maple St. and southbound Ash St. will remain open, but motorists should be prepared for detours and lane reductions. Eastbound motorists on Pettet Dr.

will be diverted at Belt St. to Indiana St. , while westbound traffic will be redirected at Monroe St. Local access will be maintained during non-working hours, and pedestrians may encounter sidewalk detours. The project receives funding from the Washington State Pedestrian/Bike Program, Arterial Street Fund, and the Washington Climate Commitment Act.

Officials stress the importance of supporting local businesses affected by the construction. Current obstruction information is available on the city's construction webpage.
