At 10:39 a. m. on August 25, 2025, Spokane firefighters were dispatched to a reported house fire at 804 South Sherman Street. Dispatchers warned of a high probability that an adult male resident was trapped inside the duplex. Engine 1 arrived within four minutes and confirmed flames on the first floor, which had spread to the second story and attic.

Firefighters initiated a dual effort to search for the victim and combat the blaze. They found the unconscious man and removed him through a window, upgrading the incident to a second alarm. He was transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center in critical condition. Firefighters brought the fire under control in 20 minutes, but the damage was extensive, making the building uninhabitable. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and firefighters remained on scene to extinguish any remaining hotspots.
