Millions Awarded to Affordable Housing Projects Across Spokane

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane's City Council approved a significant investment of $7. 5 million to support nine affordable housing projects and programs. This funding will facilitate the construction of 95 new mixed-income housing units and the preservation of 50 affordable units, specifically targeting households earning 60% of Area Median Income (AMI) or less. The funding sources include HEART Funds, 1406 Affordable Housing Development Funds, HOME Affordable Housing Development Funds, and HOME-ARP TBRA Funds. Among the funded projects, four focus on new construction, while two aim to rehabilitate existing units.

Mayor Brown emphasized the importance of these initiatives for enhancing community stability and creating opportunities. The approved projects reflect a strategic approach to addressing the pressing need for affordable housing in Spokane. The funding allocation also highlights the city's commitment to supporting vulnerable populations. This effort is part of broader policies aimed at improving housing accessibility for low-income residents.
