Flags Lowered for Spokane County Sergeant Kenneth Salas
Mayor Lisa Brown ordered flags at all Spokane City facilities to be lowered to half-staff in honor of Sergeant Kenneth Salas, who tragically lost his life while assisting with a traffic hazard on Interstate 90. “We are deeply saddened by the loss of Sergeant Salas, who was killed while serving our community,” Mayor Brown remarked, extending condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues at the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office. The decision to lower the flags aims to recognize Salas's dedication to public service and sacrifice. Flags will remain at half-staff through Wednesday, August 20, allowing the community to collectively mourn. The City encourages residents to display flags at half-staff at their homes and businesses in solidarity.
A memorial service for Sergeant Salas is scheduled for 1 p. m. on August 20 at the Spokane Convention Center, where community members can pay their respects. This tragic event underscores the risks law enforcement officers face while serving and protecting the public. The City of Spokane seeks to honor Salas's legacy through this public acknowledgment of his sacrifice.
