Construction Project Will Impact W. Maxwell Starting Monday

Spokane, WALocal News

W. Maxwell Ave. will close in both directions between N. Elm St. and N.

Walnut St. from Aug. 25 to Sept. 19 for traffic signal upgrades as part of the Maxwell Pettet to Walnut Bike/Pedestrian project. This initiative aims to enhance bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure, featuring new sidewalks, bike lanes, and improved crosswalks to better connect the West Central Neighborhood with AM Cannon Park and the West Central Community Center.

Motorists should prepare for detours, with eastbound traffic on Pettet Dr. redirected at Belt St. to Indiana St. Local access will remain available during non-working hours, and pedestrians may experience sidewalk detours. This project is funded by the Washington State Pedestrian/Bike Program and the Washington Climate Commitment Act.

Residents are urged to support nearby businesses impacted by the necessary construction work. Current obstruction information for drivers is accessible on the city's construction webpage. The improvements aim to promote safer travel for pedestrians and cyclists in the area.
