Construction Project Will Impact W. Maxwell Starting Monday

Spokane, WALocal News

W. Maxwell Ave. will close for traffic signal upgrades from August 25 to September 19, impacting both directions between N. Walnut St. and N.

Elm St. This construction is part of the Maxwell Pettet to Walnut Bike/Pedestrian project aimed at improving infrastructure for cyclists and pedestrians. Enhancements include new sidewalks, bike lanes, and crosswalk upgrades to connect the West Central Neighborhood with AM Cannon Park and the Centennial Trail. Motorists will face detours, including eastbound detours at Belt St. and lane reductions on Ash St.

Local access remains available during non-working hours, although pedestrians may experience sidewalk detours. The project is funded by the Washington State Pedestrian/Bike Program, Arterial Street Fund, and the Washington Climate Commitment Act, which promotes sustainable transportation initiatives. Residents are encouraged to support businesses affected by the construction. Information on current obstructions can be found on the city's construction webpage.
