Millions Awarded to Affordable Housing Projects Across Spokane

Spokane's City Council has approved $7. 5 million in funding for nine affordable housing projects, reinforcing the city's commitment to addressing housing needs. The funding comes from multiple sources, including $5 million in HEART Funds, aimed at expanding affordable housing options for vulnerable groups. Four new construction projects will provide 95 mixed-income units, with 63 designated for families earning 60% or less of the Area Median Income. Rehabilitation efforts will preserve 50 affordable units for households earning 50% AMI or less and create 49 additional units for those earning 80% AMI or less.

A new homeownership project will introduce 12 single-family townhomes, with six reserved for families earning 80% AMI or less. Mayor Brown expressed that these investments will foster community stability and opportunities for all residents. The funding reflects a strategic approach to combat the affordable housing crisis in Spokane. By addressing diverse housing needs, Spokane aims to create a more inclusive community.
