Millions Awarded to Affordable Housing Projects Across Spokane

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane's City Council allocated $7. 5 million to support nine local affordable housing projects aimed at increasing rental and homeownership options. The funding sources include $5 million from HEART Funds and nearly $1 million from HOME Affordable Housing Development Funds. Four new construction initiatives will contribute 95 mixed-income units, with 63 designated for households earning 60% or less of Area Median Income (AMI). Two rehabilitation projects will help preserve 50 units for households earning 50% AMI or less while adding 49 units for those at 80% AMI or less.

A new initiative will also create 12 single-family townhomes, with six available for households earning 80% AMI or less. Additionally, two projects will cater to vulnerable populations, serving 86 eligible households. Mayor Brown highlighted the importance of these investments in promoting community stability and opportunity. The funding reflects the city's commitment to addressing affordable housing challenges in Spokane.
