Construction Project Will Impact W. Maxwell Starting Monday

Spokane, WALocal News

W. Maxwell Ave. will close from August 25 to September 19 for traffic signal upgrades as part of the Maxwell Pettet to Walnut Bike/Pedestrian project. This initiative aims to enhance bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure, including new sidewalks and bike lanes, to better connect the West Central Neighborhood with local parks and community centers. During the closure, local access will be maintained during non-working hours, but drivers should expect detours on Pettet Dr.

and lane reductions on Ash St. The project is funded by the Washington State Pedestrian/Bike Program and the Washington Climate Commitment Act (CCA), which aims to support sustainable transportation initiatives. Residents are urged to slow down for safety and to support nearby businesses impacted by the construction. The city has provided a construction and detour map for further guidance. Current obstruction information impacting drivers is available on the city’s construction webpage.

This project represents a significant investment in improving local infrastructure and promoting safe travel for pedestrians and cyclists.
