Flags lowered for Spokane County sergeant killed in line of duty
Mayor Lisa Brown ordered flags at all City facilities to be lowered to half-staff in remembrance of Sergeant Ken Salas, who was killed while responding to a traffic hazard on Interstate 90. Salas's tragic death occurred while he was actively serving his community, emphasizing the dangers faced by law enforcement personnel. Mayor Brown expressed profound sadness, stating, "The City of Spokane extends its deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and colleagues with the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office. " Flags will remain lowered until Monday, allowing the community to pay their respects. The City encourages residents to join in this recognition by lowering their flags as well.
Salas's commitment to public safety serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by officers daily. This event has spurred conversations about law enforcement safety and community support. The gesture aims to foster unity and honor the service of those who protect the community.
