Millions Awarded to Affordable Housing Projects Across Spokane

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane has allocated $7. 5 million to fund nine local affordable housing projects aimed at enhancing rental and homeownership opportunities. The funding sources include $5 million from HEART Funds, $1 million from 1406 Affordable Housing Development Funds, and $999,098 from HOME Affordable Housing Development Funds. Four new construction projects will create 95 mixed-income units, with 63 units reserved for households earning 60% Area Median Income or less. Two rehabilitation projects will preserve 50 units for those earning 50% AMI or less, while a new homeownership initiative will produce 12 single-family townhomes.

Mayor Brown emphasized that these funds are vital for expanding affordable housing and ensuring that resources reach the community effectively. The projects aim to support vulnerable populations as defined by the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to address housing instability in Spokane.

The funding demonstrates a proactive approach to meeting the growing demand for affordable housing.
